The birth of Lottie

The big news have arrived. I have landed my first "volunteer job" as a fashion illustrator at The Retrosphere. It's more of a help than an actual job but I must say I am really excited about it!
Few weeks ago I got contacted by this lovely girl named Jennifer Hakim, founder and owner of The Retrosphere.

A little something about The Retrosphere

"The Retrosphere, as Jennifer describes it, is the world's first online vintage store with fashion magazine features.
Our website offers an exclusive access to internationally hand-picked pieces, with unique womenswear, footwear and accessories that match the season's hottest trends. It is very important for us to offer our lovely customers the hottest pieces, so our team is always looking for new vintage treasures." - she continues.

The project

The reason why Jennifer contacted me is because she was in the search for a suitable fashion illustrator for the website that could help her with a new feature that will attract more vintage-loving customers. After several successful conversations we came up with a fantastic idea..

LOTTIE - The Retro Diaries

Me and Jennifer are very proud to announce the birth of "Lottie - The retro diaries" which is a new weekly feature on The Retrosphere coming out every Monday. Follow our retrosphere heroine every week as she travels through major events of Fashion History. This Monday, Lottie got her first mini skirt.

Don't forget to visit The Retrosphere every Monday to follow the adventures of Lottie! Also, don't forget to spend a little money on those fantastic vintage clothes now that you're there.. ;)

Emerging from your cocoon

Hey everyone! For my next post (which is not technically my post) we have a guest blogger who is here to share something very important with all of you. Jackie Clark, a very commited woman fighting against mesothelioma cancer has decided to contact me and the blog in order to spread her views on 'ways to make a woman feel beautiful even with cancer', as she likes to say, with a larger audience.
Here is a very passionate and moving article on this very common issue and ways to prevent cancer from taking over your life. Enjoy!

Emerging from your cocoon
by Jackie Clark

"One of the best things that a person can feel is that they are beautiful, but if you have been dealing with doctors and a diagnosis of breast cancer, mesothelioma cancer, or any of the other health problems related to women, you will find that it may have been some time since you felt really lovely. You may feel embarrassed about wanting to be beautiful, but there is no reason to feel like this at all. The truth of the matter is that beauty allows you to feel powerful and it is time to get that beauty back.

Think of it this way: beauty is a manifestation of good health and good conditions. If you are ready to show the world that you are feeling strong and in control again, consider what taking the time to become strong and beautiful might be like. You will be showing that you are again in good shape, both to the world and to yourself.

Don’t hesitate-- get started today. For example, think about what your options are when it comes the clothes you want to wear. Look at your style and think about the fun of going out and choosing the best clothes that will without a doubt suit you. Do you want a brand new leather jacket or are you a vintage sundress type of woman? What kind of clothes are going to showcase the qualities that you want introduced to the world?

Take a friend with you when you go shopping. You may be feeling a little nervous about how far and how fast you can go; you may find that your body shape has changed or that your tastes have shifted. Having a friend come along on this jaunt with you helps you stay focused and positive. Consider what they like and what their tastes are and ask them to help you find things that suit you as you are. This is a great way to move forward towards the kind of look you want.

What about your hair? Various cancer treatments tend to make your hair fall out or thin for that matter. Don’t let this side effect discourage you. There are so many options that you can choose from. Have fun with wigs, scarves, and hats! Each day try a new look; see what you like best or what looks best on you. If you had dark hair try a red wig. Maybe a Rihanna red or a softer red if you aren’t ready for a big change. Remember a cancer diagnosis shouldn’t define you. Instead define cancer and play with scarves or hats. There are so many options don’t be afraid to try something new. As crazy as this seems you might even take the bold approach and go bald! Bald can be beautiful and make up can help!

Think about getting a full effect by putting on some makeup. Use blush to give you full, healthy cheeks, and use concealer to get of dark circles. The face that you make out of makeup is just as much your face as the one that you were born with. You are spending time and effort to make it, and you are the only one who does it quite like you do.

It’s time to come out of the cocoon and to embrace the person that you are. That person is beautiful, so choose the clothes that complement her tastes and her needs. There are some fantastic clothes out there that are just waiting for you, so make your selections today."

Mario Dodovski Pre-Fall 2012

Mario Dodovski Pre-Fall 2012 is here, pretty much in time considering the last pre-fall collections were released a week ago. Enjoy the inspiration and full collection consisted of 17 looks below.

Inspiration

I think the inspiration for my pre-fall collection couldn't be more obvious - it's the 'coke chic' (what I like to call it) all over again. The collection is a balance between the grunge style sported by many young girls wanting to bring back the 90s era to the 21st century and the more glamorous high fashion approach to it - note: Carine Roitfeld. Darker, but still bold colors dominate the looks, ranging from forest green and dark mint to tangerine tango and a lighter version of eggplant. The glamour that lacks in the first half of the collection is more than present in the second, with sexy cut out evening dresses adorned with shiny ribbons and luxurious pastel colored furs. The effortless style is finished with boy hats, jackets worn over the shoulders, sweaters below the elbows and one must have item - the cigarette.
