What will Felicity Jones wear to Oscars 2015?

As we are counting down the days until the 87th Academy Awards, we all probably have one question in mind: "What will the big stars wear on the red carpet?"

To answer your question, here is my prediction about the English actress Felicity Jones.

What is Felicity Jones going to wear to this year's Academy Awards? If you ask me, it's going to be a dress designed by Raf Simons for Dior. Ms. Jones has been favoring the brand since the premiere of The Theory of Everything and has worn its designs to several big occasions, including the Golden Globes. For the big night she might choose a gown from the house's latest Haute Couture collection or wear something modified from the international Pre-Fall '15 show staged in Tokyo.

If Felicity's stylist, or the house of Dior, decides not to share the spotlight with French actress Marion Cotillard on the red carpet, Ms. Jones will most likely turn to her other favorite brands. One is Valentino, the other is London-based designer Erdem and the last one being the most popular British house, Alexander McQueen, mostly famous for its controversial founder and lately because of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress.

Scandal S04E08: Olivia Pope's outfits for less

The best part of watching Scandal, besides wanting Olivia Pope's exciting life, is the fact that you can easily steal her style for less. Here are all the outfits from the eighth episode called "The Last Supper".

PFW: One man's reference is another man's copy

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. That is a quote from Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities which perfectly describes what we saw yesterday in Paris over a span of ten hours. But, being the optimist that I am, I shall begin with the best of times: Lanvin's Alber Elbaz has, once again, presented a highly successful collection.

For the house's 125th anniversary, Mr. Elbaz put together a cast of models that looked - quite literally - like a dream. 80s supermodel Violetta Sanchez opened the show dressed in a one-sleeve jersey T-shirt dress that showed just enough nipple and stomach definition to make her appear even more attractive than she already is. Followed by icons Amber Valetta and Natasa Vojnovic wearing similar gowns with a matching sense of effortless-ness, it became clear to the audience that this was going to be a celebration of the classic.

The show continued in that direction - more light-weight jersey dresses provided room for move-ment, silk crepe minis in black and white hugged the girls' bodies, silver mesh tank tops evoked a certain perversion that Lanvin has been long due to show and delicate lace and floral-printed pieces that took stage towards the end of the show provi-ded a sigh of relief with the younger clientele who is into the type of luxury the house has been doing for the past couple of seasons. Another moment worth noting is the immaculate use of cobalt blue and shades of orange which undoubtedly point at Mr. Elbaz's iconic S/S '08 show for the brand.

But before Lanvin's 8 p.m. slot on the Paris Fashion Week schedule things weren't looking so bright. The day opened with Roland Mouret's show for his namesake brand which had its glory moments like the simple pieces in shamrock green styled with crisp white tops, but the rest came across as unneces-sarily complicated and unflattering. Another low was Peter Copping's story for Nina Ricci which was heavily influenced by Dior's double-faced fabric in pink and orange, houndstooth print and laser-cuts,
as well as Prada's S/S '09 show in terms of the crinkled satin duchesse and several silhouettes.

But the biggest flop of the day had to be Balmain's Las Vegas show. Backstage, the designer claimed that he was inspired by a paparazzi photo of Rihanna wearing one of his designs - however, the collection had Kim Kardashian's name written all over it, mind the fact that she was sitting in the front row surrounded by her whole family. Going into detail about separate pieces would be an additional morning headache so I am just going to note the circus stripes, cage dresses which revealed a lot more than they should have and the white pantsuit consisted of a side-slashed blazer with intertwined lapels which came straight off Alexander McQueen's debut show for Givenchy back in 1997.

Cocktail party dressing for the suit-clad lady

When it comes to business dressing, almost every article out there talks about what the professional woman should wear to work. Business cocktail parties, however, are largely neglected as it is widely believed that women ought to wear cocktail dresses to every event they get invited.

However, my experience has shown that there are a lot of women out there who just feel comfortable in a suit. They either have certain insecurities about their body - don't like showing off their legs or arms, or simply enjoy the addition of power over the crowd a suit gives them. 

In the next few paragraphs I will show you how to wear a suit to a cocktail party or to any other formal event without feeling a bit under-dressed by choosing the right pieces and accessories.

The Blazer

I would say that choosing the right blazer is the most important part of looking great at a cocktail party. You must remember that your formal blazers should stray away from the ones you wear to work, be festive enough to charm the crowd, but yet feel event appropriate. If you don't like a lot of bling the perfect blazer for you would be the black Alexander McQueen with a satin bow and small embellishments or the Saint Laurent silver jacquard one; if you are considered a risk taker, however, absolutely go for the Maison Martin Margiela cropped jacket which is an absolute masterpiece.

What will the presenters wear to Oscars 2014?

As we are counting down the days until the 86th Academy Awards, we all probably have one question in mind: "What will the big stars wear on the red carpet?"

You can read my predictions about several nominated stars such as Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong'o throughout the previous posts and here is the last part of the project showing you what the presenters might wear to this year's Oscars.

Above are the outfit predictions for two gorgeous stars - Jessica Biel and the legendary Angelina Jolie. For the big night I think Jessica will stay true to her romantic aesthetic and don this flower-printed gown from her favorite designer Giambattista Valli, while Angelina Jolie would probably continue the menswear get-ups and wear this sequined jumpsuit with a cape from Atelier Versace.

Next on the list we have Jennifer Garner, lately known for her role in the nominated film "Dallas Buyers Club", who could end up wearing this lace blue column gown from Oscar de la Renta and the pregnant star Kerry Washington who I think will wear this printed maternity dress from Carolina Herrera's latest fall collection.

America's sweetheart Anne Hathaway switched stylists this year and therefore said goodbye to the princess gowns, so I believe she could possibly wear this emerald silk taffeta Valentino column dress from the brand's S/S '14 Couture collection, whereas the beautiful actress Kate Hudson could end up wearing something majestic from British designer Alexander McQueen.

Last but not least we have Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts - two beautiful actresses who prefer minimalism and comfort over drama. Theron is a big fan of Christian Dior and this pantsuit from the brand's S/S '14 Couture collection is perfect for the star, while Naomi Watts was a front-row guest at Calvin Klein's latest show in NYC which could indicate the American house is going to dress the actress for this year's Academy Awards.

To answer your question, here is my prediction about the beautiful Cate Blanchett.

There is no doubt that Cate Blanchett is a big Armani fan - she has worn Giorgio Armani to a lot of events throughout the years and has never missed the mark when it comes to her fashion choices. Considering she is this year's favorite to pick up the Oscar for Leading Actress, I believe Ms. Blanchett will go with Armani Privé on the big night, choosing either an embellished gown or a romantic pantsuit

(which would be a rather daring choice) from the S/S '14 collection.

Ms. Blanchett has also religiously worn brands like Givenchy, Alexander McQueen and Valentino and has looked stunning in their creations, so she might also pick a garment from one of their new collections or have something custom made which is fit for a star of her range.

Collection Déjà Vus - How Much is Too Much?

With the blog's new look comes a new style - it is not enough for me to just review the newest collections or present you with outfit ideas or new collections. Given the freedom and power as a blogger, I feel the need to express my opinion on problems concerning fashion that may be small to the "big" world - but matter a lot to ours.

The Big Problem - When did it Actually Start?

We are all familiar with the word 'recession' and its impact on the world economy, and more importantly - on fashion. Ever since 2008, all we've been hearing about is cutting expenses, minimalism and plain presentations. Another association that comes to mind when someone mentions the word 'recession' is the word, safe. Statistics show that since the beginning of the recession, repetitive collections have been selling like hot cakes, while risk-takers and fashion forward designers have been classified as economic failures. 

Given this, more and more designers have been jumping on the 'repetition' band wagon, desperately trying to save their companies and maximize their profits. However, while this may keep the world of fashion financially stable, what has happened to creativity?

A Growing Trend - Whose Fault is it?

Imagine a bad situation that has happened to you in life. A failed relationship, a bad date, a ruined dress. We always try to blame someone for our misfortune. And while that is a bad approach.. almost all the time, I have to point the finger to the main duo responsible for this "trend" - Dolce&Gabbana. Starting with their S/S 2010 collection back in 2009, the designers have given the word 'repetitive' a whole new meaning. Below is a not-so-complete retrospective of their work until that season (my personal favorites). What you can clearly see is the creativity behind those masterpieces, their ability to explore new themes and start groundbreaking trends.

What you see in the photo below is variations of the same Sicilian theme over and over again. For me, the only way to distinguish those collections is by giving them different names such as Dolce&Musicana for F/W 2011, or Dolce&Banana for the fruit/vegetable inspired S/S 2012 one.

The Blind Side - Who Followed?

Following in Dolce&Gabbana's footsteps, Valentino's new duo started establishing the modern Valentino girl. Dressed in nude and covered with lace and studs, she continues to haunt their shows with minor changes to this day. Unfortunately that wasn't all. Red carpet's favorite designer, Elie Saab ditched his themed shows as well, showing 5 different dresses in every color imaginable, season after season. Also let's not forget to add Sarah Burton's McQueen, Balmain - under any creative director, Pucci and Giambattista Valli as very important additions to that list. What's scary: the list is just getting bigger.

Important Question: Who is Letting this Happen?

Okay, we all know that fashion is a business, and business is all about money and so on. It is normal for owners of big luxury groups like LVMH and PPR to push their designers to 'be safe' and create wearable items season after season. However, why would anyone want to look the same every season? Shouldn't I, as a customer, want different themes from different designers? That way I would spend more, as I want to own at least one piece from every iconic collection. Very logical. But no, apparently that is not how things work in our fashion world. Apparently, now, what's 'in' is to drool over the same items again and again. Which brings me to this question: What idiot buys the same Dolce&Gabbana lace dress for the rest of their life? First world problems.

Moment of Truth - How Can We Solve this?

As an individual, not me - nor you (unless you're Anna Wintour) can do much about it. However, you know what they say - think globally, act locally! The one thing that everyone can do is re-inspect their values. Instead of screaming 'Oh my God, I love that studded Valentino clutch!' that I have seen 10 times before, I would praise young designers like Alexander Wang or Christopher Kane who are trying to make a statement in this world while entertaining us. Let's also not forget the absolute legends - what's left of them after McQueen and Galliano anyway, Miuccia Prada and Marc Jacobs who bring new items to the table season after season. That is the talent we need to acknowledge. For once, forget about the pretty dresses and platform shoes and look into the future - is women wearing Dolce&Gabbana what you really wish to see?

Freeze in style

I realized I hadn't done such a post in a long time. I always enjoy putting themed outfits together, whether it's for a special occasion or simply a certain time of the year. This time it's winter themed outfits - made to help you face the cold weather in style!

The Princess

As you know, I always make several outfits matching different styles and personalities. The first one is for the princess - a girl who loves mixing white and pink, a girl who loves to inject whimsicality in her outfits to look even dreamier. The outfit is consisted of a white coat with fur collar, lady-like pumps, white fur earmuffs and a book clutch with a floral cover for an interesting statement.

The Edgy Girl

The second outfit is for the edgy girl. A girl who loves her leather pieces and tries to insert as many leather pieces as possible to toughen up her look. However the edgy girl doesn't always have to wear black - that is why I tried to inject some color in the outfit via the bright pink clutch (still studded though), burgundy pants and ink blue panels on her shoes. 

The Classic Lady

The classic lady likes to stay true to the standards of beauty - two to three colors in her outfit, nothing too risky and nothing too trendy. However this winter I suggest a black cape with leather edges instead of the classic coat, a black shirt with sheer sleeves and gold panels on the collar and shoes in burgundy, navy or purple with sequined soles for a little playfulness. 

The Tomboy

The tomboy is a complete opposite from the lady - she likes to dress casually, wearing mostly jeans, sweaters and hard boots. This season's hit - the parka, is perfect for this type of girl. Wear it with a quirky printed sweater, winter ankle boots and a cute knitted hat with a fur beanie for a casual but yet polished statement. 

You can find all the outfits used on Net-a-porter. However, for those with a much lower budget and all the young girls out there I would suggest you shop pieces similar to these in stores like H&M, Zara, Bershka, Pull&Bear, Asos or Topshop. That way you would be dressed head-to-toe in style with much less money!

Cannes Film Festival 2011 - What to expect?

The Cannes film festival 2011 has officially started.

I must say I'm quite excited, because we are going to see many gorgeous looks on the red carpet by consistantly gorgeous stars such as Fan BingBing, Eva Longoria and Uma Thurman.
As usual, I thought of doing something creative to get into the Cannes spirit. And this year is by choosing categories, or better said trends, which could be chosen by the celebrities.

The Whites

One of the most common trends at events like these is the color trend. Which color is going to be most worn? Since this year's motto is "White is the new black", I think it's pretty safe to say that we are going to see many beautiful white dresses. I'm still waiting for someone to rock that gorgeous feathered Versace dress, which I am sure is going to happen anytime soon. Another favorite of mine is the Saab sweetheart neckline dress. Simply divine.

Long Sleeved Sexiness

We all know that European weather is not at it's best right now - but that actually works in favor of this second trend. Long sleeved gowns have always been perfect for an occasion where you'd like to be appropriate and sexy without showing too much skin. But to spice up things this season, designers did show skin - or dare I say, a whole leg. The thigh-high split was seen at various houses such as Pucci and Elie Saab.

Going Big

But if the first two trends are too subtle for some of the celebrities, there's always the one they can always count on - the bigger the better. Big gowns have always been a classic on the red carpet and they never go out of style. Whether it's Valli's simple designs with a lot of tulle or Dior's draped gowns, there is one thing known for sure - they steal the spotlight like nothing else.

The Risk Taker

And of course there are the risk takers - celebrities that have a hard time wearing something that doesn't stand out in the crowd. Whether it's because of their eccentric style - or lack of it, these people could definitely rock some of the season's wackiest designs. Starting from Givenchy's whole haute couture presentation to Gucci's sheer dresses, a front-page feature in the newspapers is inevitable.

A StaRoyal Wedding

Again, apologies for not posting for such a long time.

Other activities are unfortunately delaying my posts, first of all because I want to have personal-made by myself things to post rather than repost news that have already been posted everywhere else.
Also I have some good news, I am working on my Fall/Winter 2011/12 collection right now which has been fully sketched, I just need to finish making it in Illustrator and do some final touches.
But for now, I have something very up-to-date, which is of course the Royal Wedding.
The fact that normal people can't get invited to the ceremony, and even less to the evening reception, can't stop us Stardollians from attending the wedding in our virtual world!
And for that reason my doll flew to London 5 days ago to attend that gorgeous wedding, and here is what she wore:

Day 1 - The Ceremony

Along with the invitation came a dress-code which was several pages long, describing what an appropriate or inappropriate outfit would be for the ceremony held in Westminster Abbey. Going along the appropriate way of course, I chose to wear a Fall 2010 Victoria Beckham dress, nude satin Miu Miu sandals (sold at net-a-porter.com), a burgundy Hermes croc clutch and the most important part of the outfit - a fascinator hat. I contacted Philip Treacy and I got this gorgeous rose hat presented back in 2000. A rose gold ring finished the look.

Day 1 - The Evening Reception

There wasn't a dress code for the evening reception which only meant one thing - guests could go as bold as they can. For that reason I chose to wear this gorgeous Spring 2005 Alexander McQueen dress, which had been locked in my closet for 6 years, waiting for the right occassion. Since we did not have much time to change for the reception, I kept the same hair&makeup, including the Miu Miu sandals and jewelry. The other thing I traded was the rose Treacy hat for this gorgeous vintage striped feather hat that perfectly complimented the dress.

Day 2 - Shopping in London

My second day in London was reserved for shopping of course - and I definitely respected the classic sentence "Shop til' you drop". Since I rarely go to London for any other purpose than London Fashion Week, I decided to sport mainly British designers during the wedding period. For that purpose I wore a Pre-fall 2010 Burberry dress, Fall 2010 leopard Balmain coat and studded Sonia Rykiel platform sandals. I finished the look with gold Ray Ban aviator sunglasses and an Alexander McQueen clutch.

Day 3 - A Royal Lunch

My 3rd day in London was close to perfect, as I got invited to a lunch thrown by Prince William and Catherine, Dutchess of York. I am a close friend to London-based designer Mary Katrantzou, and she was very kind to send me this gorgeous dress from her Spring 2011 collection. I accessorized with my favorite Miu Miu heels, the rose gold ring and a flower headpiece I had bought the other day in London.

Day 4 - The Tea Party

As a "thank you" to all the close friends that were invited to the wedding and who had stayed in London for a longer period of time, the royal couple threw a private tea party in Buckingham Palace. For this goodbye party I wore a dress from another London-based designer, Marjan Pejoski. I finished the look with the Miu Miu heels, a Sonia Rykiel puff headpiece, a plastic Fendi clutch from the Spring 2010 collection and a pearl ring.

And now my doll is back in New York, missing the British wedding days. I hope you liked the fashions I've sported at this event. I honestly can't wait for another occassion like this to get all glammed up for, since it has been such a fantastic experience!

My Christmas Picks

Oh yes, it's that time of the year when we all choose gifts!

For family and friends - and for ourselves as well, duh.
Influenced by the amusing post on style.com about what fashionistas would get their closest people - and themselves for Christmas, I decided to make one for myself as well.
Of course, dreaming is allowed, so I took my post to a level matching theirs. I bet Rachel Zoe won't buy herself a 100.000$ picture and a car at the same time! (at least I hope I'm not wrong)

We had an assignment in art class to do 2 drawings that will be detailed and be drawn by pencil only.

And I was like, omg this is gonna rock! That's exactly what I do all the time!
And ofc I started drawing fashion. Like I can draw something else :D

The first drawing I made was a McQueen tribute. I miss him so much. God damn you for killing yourself!

McQueen Died This Morning...

... And I died with him as well.
It was a nice day, at least it started off nicely.
I went to school, had 6 classes, came home waiting for Fashion Week to start.. I was literally dying to see those models coming down the runways.
Since I can't go to NY, I made myself reminders of all shows that will be streamed live - I was so happy about the new way of doing shows on the net.
4:15, BCBG Max Azria was about to start. I was looking for comments on twitter to see if the show had already begun. Then I read something that almost killed me.
It was a post from an obviously fashion obsessed girl who claimed that McQueen is dead. I actually didn't really believe her, because I know how people make up stories for publicity.
I googled Alexander McQueen and clicked on last results.
I wish I had never seen that, ever in my life.
Twitter comments were flowing like rivers - all of them saying

"Alexander McQueen Dies at the Age of 40"

I really died when I read that. I made a post about his 2010 shoes this morning. I was so happy and excited seeing his clothes in every magazine possible. Who would have thought he could die today?!
